Vegetation Response to Removal of Plant Groups and Grass Seeding in a Microphyllous Desert Shrubland: A 4-Year Field Experiment

Grazing is one of the most important land management activities worldwide, and cases overgrazing increase erosion, degradation, plant invasion. The objective this study was to assess effect on individual species composition in response groups plants removals or grass seeding after four years vegetation transformation a microphyllous desert shrubland excluded from cattle grazing. Nine treatments involved (1) clearing Bouteloua curtipendula (BOCU), native grass, (2) Chloris gayana (CHGA), an introduce Africa, (3) except for grasses (GRA), (4) fodder shrubs (GRA-SHR), (5) free grazing by (GRAZ), (6) (SHR), (7) no modification (CON), (8) all (BARE), (9) not eaten (UND). Treatments were replicated five times each 10 m × experimental plots. Plots surveyed density, cover plants, standing forage. Total higher CON UND than other treatments. Except BOCU, where forage production highest, ha?1 low among Plant density highest SHR lowest CON. Results indicate that seeded failed become established, but able persist, had greatest influence restoration, which what we consider appropriate restoration treatment.
